Sr. Charlene Aid, OP

May 25, 1907 – December 6, 2002

I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.
Psalm 23

Sr. Charlene Aid, 95 died in Mohun Health Care Center on Friday, December 6, 2002, thus ending a long career of 59 active years dedicated to education. She was born in Chillicothe in 1907, daughter of Edward and Ellen (Sheehan) Aid. In 1928 she entered the Dominican Novitiate from St. Mary's Parish in Chillicothe, and pronounced her vows in 1930. She received her elementary and secondary education at her home parish and then earned her degree from St. Mary of the Springs College and did her graduate studies at Fairfield University and University of Dayton.

Thirty-nine years of her active ministry were spent in the Diocese of Columbus, at the Academy of St. Mary of the Springs ('35 to '44), St. James the Less ('77 to '89), and a total of seventeen years at St. Mary's Lancaster. She was a gifted and enthusiastic teacher whose gentle ways endeared her to her students. At the age of 82 her health forced her to retire to Mohun. She is survived by her devoted nephews, Rhichard and James Aid of Florida.

Memorial gifts in Sister Charlene’s honor may be sent to Dominican Sisters, St. Mary of the Springs, 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH 43219.
