Sr. Charlene Aid, 95 died in Mohun Health Care Center on Friday, December
6, 2002, thus ending a long career of 59 active years dedicated to education.
She was born in Chillicothe in 1907, daughter of Edward and Ellen (Sheehan)
Aid. In 1928 she entered the Dominican Novitiate from St. Mary's Parish
in Chillicothe, and pronounced her vows in 1930. She received her elementary
and secondary education at her home parish and then earned her degree
from St. Mary of the Springs College and did her graduate studies at Fairfield
University and University of Dayton.
Thirty-nine years of her active ministry were spent in the Diocese of
Columbus, at the Academy of St. Mary of the Springs ('35 to '44), St.
James the Less ('77 to '89), and a total of seventeen years at St. Mary's
Lancaster. She was a gifted and enthusiastic teacher whose gentle ways
endeared her to her students. At the age of 82 her health forced her to
retire to Mohun. She is survived by her devoted nephews, Rhichard and
James Aid of Florida.
