Sr.
Agnes Jerome McCort, OP
December 31, 1900 – November 8, 2002
I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.

Sr. Agnes Jerome McCort died on November 8 in Mohun Health Care Center
where she had been a resident since 1993. Sister was born in Barnesville,
OH on the last day of 1900, the daughter of William and Mary Elizabeth
McCort, natives of Temperanceville, OH. She attended Barnesville Elementary
School, St. Mary of the Springs Academy and College, and later receiver
her M.B.A. from Dayton University.
In 1924 Sister entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters and pronounced
her vows in 1925. In the 77 years since then Sr.
Agnes Jerome enjoyed teaching for 47 years and was a much loved as well
as a competent teacher of commercial subjects. In the Columbus Diocese
she began her teaching from 1925 to 1928 in the primary grades in St.
Mary’s in Lancaster. In 1937 she returned to Holy Trinity in Somerset,
this time in the 7th and 8th grades, but by 1943 she was moved into the
High School in Coshocton. Her ministry after that took her to several
high schools, but 39 of those years were spent in Catholic Central High
School in Steubenville.
At the age of almost 102 years, Sr. Agnes Jerome remained very alert
and interested, reading avidly and even following every game of her beloved
Notre Dame football team. She will be missed not only by her sisters but
by her many nieces and nephews and their families.
