Canisia Metzger, OP
August 3, 1910 - November 6, 2002

On Wednesday morning, November 6, Sr. Canisia died peacefully at Mohun
Health Care Center where she had resided for the past five year.s Sister
Canisia (Lucille) Metzger was born in Somerset, Ohio in 1910 and was for
72 years a member of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs.
Her parents were Edlin and Gertrude (Maher) Metzger. She attended Holy
Trinity Elementary and High School in Somerset. In 1930 she pronounced
her vows at St. Mary of the Springs and then began her ministry of teaching
which she enjoyed for 56 years.
Sister was principally a Latin teacher, and she received her B.A. from
Ohio Dominican College and her M.A. from Ohio State University, both in
the field of Latin. She taught in the Diocese of Columbus for 37 years,
and sixteen were spent at Watterson, from 1956 to 1958 and again from
1966 to 1980.
Sister is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Ruth Studer,
Charles Fuchs, Rosemary Hannan and Lucille Brown, all of Columbus. Her
nephew James Fox died in Columbus on November 2. She is also survived
by her devoted friend Linda Tornes.
