Sr. Ann Catherine (Sr. Alice Loretta) Moore, OPJanuary 17, 1907 – August 15, 2002 I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live. On the feast of Mary's Assumption, August 15, Sr. Ann Catherine Moore died peacefully at Mohun Health Care Center where she had been a resident for the past 10 years. Sr. Ann Catherine (Alice Loretta Moore) was born January 17, 1907 in Pittsburg, the daughter of John Moore, a native of Co. Monaghan, Ireland, and Catherine (Crawford) who was born in Scotland. She attended St. Lawrence O'Toole Parish and School and in 1930 entered the Dominican Noviate at St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus. She was a graduate of the College there and later earned a Master's degree from Duguesne University. Her 60 years of active ministry were spent in the education of the young, and 18 of those years were in the Diocese of Columbus. She served as Superior and Principal at Christ the King from 1964 to 1970 and returned to Columbus in 1980 to minister at St. James the Less for 12 years. Other assignments took her to Stuebenville, Pittsburgh, Middletown, PA and West Hartford, CT. Sr. Ann Catherine will be greatly missed by the Sisters and by her devoted sister-in-law, Margaret Moore of Pittsburgh, as will as by a number of nieces and nephews in the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati areas. She was the third member of her family to serve in the Dominican Order. One sister, Sr. Rosemary, died in Mohun in 1992, and another sister, Sr. Leocadia, was a young missionary when she died in China in 1937 and is buried there. Memorial gifts in Sister Ann Catherine’s honor may be sent to Dominican Sisters, St. Mary of the Springs, 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH 43219. |
