Sr. Georgianna Thompson, OP

March 3, 1906 – July 24, 2002

I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.
Psalm 23

Sr. Georgianna Thompson died peacefully at Mohun Health Care Center, where she had re-sided since 1986. She had just celebrated her Jubilee as a 75-year Diamond Jubilarian in May.

Sr. Georgianna was born Mary Lucille in Newark, Ohio, March 3, 1906, to William and Mary Ellen (Costello) Thompson and attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary and High School.

She entered the Novitiate of St. Mary of the Springs in 1925 and made Final Profession in 1930. She earned a B.A. from the College of St. Mary of the Springs and a Master’s in history from The Ohio State University. Sister taught in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut for 50 years, 46 of these on the secondary level.

Of her entrance to the community, she said, “I felt I was in heaven. I remember being happy. I never thought of any other life. The Congregation was my path to God.”

She is survived by her brother William, devoted nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

Memorial gifts in Sister Georgianna’s honor may be sent to Dominican Sisters, St. Mary of the Springs, 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH 43219.
