Mary Clare Horan, OP
May 22 , 1916 – January 12, 2003
I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.

On Sunday, January 12, Sister Mary Clare Horan died peacefully in Mohun
Health Care Center. She was born in New York City, the first of five children
of the late John and Katherine (Grimes) Horan, natives of Co. Offaly,
Ireland. She began her education at St. Vincent Ferrer Grade School and
Hunter College High School. She is an alumna of St. Mary of the Springs
College and received her Master's degree in French from Laval University
in Quebec.
From 1942 to 1951 she taught French at Dominican Academy in Manhattan,
and from 1951 to 1954 at Mary Immaculate School in Ossining. She returned
to Dominican Academy in 1983, this time as bookkeeper and treasurer. She
has been there for the past 20 years until health problems brought her
to Mohun in December.
Sister is survived by her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Pat and
Hank Cluess of West Hempstead, Long Island, her sister Anne Horan also
of Long Island, and a niece and two nephews.
