Georgina Kaercher, OP
June 8, 1912 – December 20, 2003
I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.

On Saturday, December 20, Sr. Georgina Kaercher died at Mohun Health
Care Center. Born in Newark, OH, on June 8, 1912 to Frank and Elizabeth
(Kunkle) Kaercher, Sister attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and
St. Francis de Sales High School in Newark, OH. She entered the Novitiate
of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1931
and made her Profession of Vows in 1933. Sister is survived by many nieces
and nephews among the Kaercher, George, Rice, Ghiloni, and Camp families.
Sr. Georgina received her B.S. from St. Mary of the Springs College
(now Ohio Dominican University). Her ministry was primarily in elementary
education. She was stationed in the Columbus Diocese at Holy Name (1936-40),
Lancaster St. Mary (1940-44, 1955-56), St. James the Less (1964-65), Somerset
Holy Trinity (1970), and Holy Spirit (1970-78). From 1978-1992, Sr. Georgina
tutored remedial reading and taught crafts to the elderly at Holy Spirit
Parish in Columbus. She was well known for her artistic ability and her
many crafts. She spent many years teaching in our mission schools in Dixon
and Santa Fe, NM, and in Amarillo, TX. Sr. Georgina served the Congregation
as Procurator (1956-58). Her duties included the maintenance of the buildings
on the Motherhouse grounds.
