Mary Francis Lynch, OP
February 8, 1910 – September 1, 2003

On Monday, September 1, 2003, Sr. Mary Francis Lynch died at Mt. Carmel
East Medical Center. Sr. Mary Francis was born in New York City on February
8, 1910. Her parents, Michael and Bridget (Sullivan) Lynch raised Sr.
Mary Francis (Mary Anna) in Holy Cross Parish in New York City. She is
survived by several nieces and grand-nieces including Candy Baxter, Helen
Payton, Jennifer Parsons and Bernice Hillsgrove. Among her close friends
are members of the family of Robert San Falippe. She will be greatly missed
by her family, friends and members of her congregation, the Dominican
Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs. Sr. Mary Francis entered the Dominican
Novitiate in Columbus in 1928 and pronounced her vows in 1930.
Sr. Mary Francis attended Holy Cross Elementary School in New York City
and received her high school diploma from St. Mary of the Springs Academy
and her B.S. from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican
University). She did graduate work in Business Education at the Catholic
University of America and taught commercial subjects starting in 1944.
Recently, Sr. Mary Francis had resided in Mohun Health Care Center where
her ministry was that of prayer. She noted that "Prayer gives me
wings."
Sr. Mary Francis taught at St. Mary Lancaster and tutored at Bishop Watterson
High School in the Columbus Diocese, and at St. Thomas in Braddock and
St. William in the Pittsburgh area . She taught at Sacred Heart in Coshocton,
Ohio from 1950 to 1956 and was principal there from 1954 to 1956. In New
York, Sr. Mary Francis taught at St. Augustine in Ossining, St. Andrew
in Flushing, and at Dominican Academy, Annunciation and St. Vincent Ferrer
in New York City. While in Connecticut, she taught at St. Mary High School
in New Haven and Northwest Catholic in West Hartford where she introduced
the new DDC Timing Record in her typing classes.
