Mary Arthur Fenton, OP
March 27, 1919 – June 27, 2004

On Sunday, June 27, Sr. Mary Arthur Fenton died at Mohun Health Care
Center. Born in New York City on March 27, 1919, she entered the Novitiate
of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in 1936, and made
her profession of vows in 1938. She earned a B.A. degree in English from
the College of St. Mary of the Springs (now Ohio Dominican University)
and an M.A. from Marquette University.
Sr. Mary Arthur taught in elementary schools in Newark (OH), Columbus,
Pittsburgh, and New York. She also taught English at Ohio Dominican College
(now Ohio Dominican University) for 20 years, and at Albertus Magnus College
in New Haven, CT, for four years. She served the Dominican Sisters as
Director of Communications for 24 years, retiring in 1996, and had resided
in Mohun Health Care Center since 1998.
Sr. Mary Arthur is survived by cousins Robert Driscoll of Massachusetts,
and Margaret Surprise Pekrul of Naugatuck, CT. A sister, Sr. Mary Guzman
Fenton of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs, preceded her
in death.
