Florence Anne Hearn, OP
June 25, 1924 – March 30, 2004

On Tuesday, March 30, Sr. Florence Anne Hearn died at Mt. Carmel East
Hospital. She had been a resident of Mohun Health Care Center since 1996.
Born in Newark, NJ, on June 25, 1924, to Daniel and Florence (Healey)
Hearn, Sister then moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she attended
Barnum Elementary School and Warren G. Harding High School. She entered
the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus
in 1946 and made her Profession of Vows in 1948. She will be missed by
her friends and her Dominican sisters.
Sr. Florence Anne received her BA in English and Latin from Albertus
Magnus College (New Haven, CT) and an MA in English from Notre Dame University.
She was stationed in the Columbus Diocese at Rosecrans High School Zanesville
(1959-61, 1975) and at Newark Catholic High School (1961-62, 71-75). Sister
also taught at Catholic Central High School in Steubenville, OH (1983-84),
Mary Immaculate School in Ossining, NY (1954-57) and St. Vincent Ferrer
High School in New York City (1957-58, 62-65, 69-71). In the Pittsburgh
area she taught at St. Francis de Sales High School in McKees Rocks (1948-54)
and St. Thomas District High School in Braddock (1965-69) and in Connecticut
at St. Mary High School in New Haven (1958-59). Sr. Florence Anne taught
English at Donnelly College in Kansas City, Ks (1975-77) and English and
French to the students at Indian Lake High School in Russels Point, OH
(1986).
Before her retirement in 1990, Sr. Florence Anne had a varied career
as a teacher, as Director of Communications at Chelsea Community Center
in Kansas City, as staff in the Patient Admissions Department at the University
of Kansas Medical Center and as a receptionist at St. Mary of the Springs.
