Kieran Quinn, OP
September 4, 1923 – August 28, 2004

On Saturday, August 28, Sister Kieran Quinn died at Mohun Health Care
Center. Born in Long Island City, New York, on September 4, 1923, to the
late James and Anna O’Reilly Quinn, she entered the Novitiate of
the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in 1941 and made her
profession of vows in 1943.
Sr. Kieran earned a B.A. degree from the College of St. Mary of the Springs
(now Ohio Dominican University) and an M.A. from Fordham University.
Sister taught in elementary and high schools in Pennsylvania (St. Lawrence
O’Toole, Pittsburgh, 1943-44), New York (St. Andrew Avellino School,
Flushing, 1947-1961; Mary Immaculate School, Ossining 1961-1964; St. Vincent
Ferrer School, NYC, 1974-1990;), and Ohio (St. Peter School, Steubenville,
1944-1947), and at Ohio Dominican College (1964-1970). She served the
Dominican Sisters as General Councilor (1970-1974 and 1990-1996), Director
of Development, and Internal Communications Director.
Sr. Kieran was preceded in death by twin siblings, John Quinn and Maura
Quinn Riordan, and a nephew, Danny Riordan. She is survived by a brother,
the Reverend Charles Terence Quinn, O.P.; sister-in-law Marguerite Quinn;
an aunt Peg O’Reilly of Ireland; nieces Eileen Murphy, Sheila Burger,
and Bernadette Hunt; nephews William Riordan, Stephen Riordan, and Kevin
Riordan; many grand-nieces and nephews; as well as her Dominican community
members and many good friends.
