Sr. Claire Hinnebusch, OP
June 23, 1920 - October 27, 2005
I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.

On Thursday, October 27, 2005, Sr. Claire (Mary Paul) Hinnebusch died
at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on June 23,
1920, to John and Anna Mary (Stratemeier) Hinnebusch. She entered the
Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus
in 1944 and made her Profession of Vows in 1946.
Sr. Claire earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio
Dominican University) and an MA in Religious Studies from Providence College,
Providence, RI. In Ohio, she ministered at Holy Name, Steubenville (1946-47);
St. Francis of Assisi, Columbus (1948-54); St. Anthony, Steubenville (1955-56);
St. Thomas Aquinas, Zanesville (1957-59); and Holy Trinity, Somerset (1959-60).
In New York, Sister taught at Mary Immaculate School, Ossining (1947-48)
and at St. Andrew Avellino, Flushing (1961-62). Most of Sister’s
ministry was in the Pittsburgh area. She taught at Seven Sorrows of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, Middletown, PA (1954-55, 1956-57); St. Aloysius,
Wilmerding (1960-61); St. Brendan, Braddock (1962-66); and St. Thomas
District High School, Braddock (1966-68). From 1968 to 1971 Sr. Claire
served as Coordinator of Religious Education at a parish in Rochester,
PA and as Director of Religious Education at St. Perpetua Parish, McKeesport
(1971-93) and at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, Pittsburgh (1993-94).
Sister was manager of Just-Inn, a senior citizen facility in Pittsburgh
(1994-96), and served as a nurse’s aide at Shady Oaks in Gibsonia,
PA, for a short time in 1996. Sr. Claire ministered at St. Alexis Rectory
in Wexford, PA (1996-97) and was involved in family home care before coming
to Mohun Health Care Center in 1999.
Sr. Claire was preceded in death by several siblings including Dominican
Fathers William, Louis, and Paul, and Dominican Sisters Regina Ann and
Dorothy (Leocadia), as well as by her brothers Raymond and Joseph and
her sister Mary. She is survived by a brother, Dominican Father John Hinnebusch,
a sister-in-law, Margaret Hinnebusch, and several nieces and nephews.
