Marie Louise Hubert, OP
June 25, 1914 – March 2, 2005

On Wednesday, March 2, 2005, Sr. Marie Louise Hubert died at Mohun Health
Care Center. Sister was born in New York City on June 25, 1914, to Joseph
and Marie Louise (Tissieres) Hubert. She entered the Novitiate of the
Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1940 and made
her Profession of Vows in 1942. Sr. Marie Louise served as president of
Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT, from 1956 through 1971.
Sr. Marie Louise earned a BA in French from St. Joseph College (Brooklyn,
NY), an MA from Columbia University (New York, NY), and a PhD from Yale
University (New Haven, CT). In 1972, Albertus Magnus College bestowed
on Sr. Marie Louise an Honorary Degree of LLD. She had taught at Albertus
Magnus College from 1942 until 1956 prior to her term as president. She
also did research at the Catholic University of America in Washington,
DC (1971-72).
Sr. Marie Louise served as Director of Institutional Research at Albertus
Magnus College from 1972 until her retirement in 2001. Sr. Marie Louise
was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by a cousin Olive
Herber (New York) and cousins Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hubert and Paul Hubert
(Canada). Sr. Marie Louise will be missed by her Dominican Sisters, her
colleagues, and many friends.
