Sr. Maura Litzinger, OP
December 16, 1902 - May 28, 2005
I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I shall live.

On Saturday, May 28, 2005, Sr. Maura Litzinger died at Mohun Health
Care Center. She was born in Somerset, OH, on December 16, 1902, to Harry
and Mary (Snider) Litzinger. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican
Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1920 and made her Profession
of Vows in 1922.
Sr. Maura earned a BA in Latin from St. Mary of the Springs College (now
Ohio Dominican University). In the Columbus Diocese, she ministered at
St. Francis de Sales, Newark (1923-24, 1925-26); St. Mary, Lancaster (1924-25,
1935-37); Blessed Sacrament, Newark (1926-29); Sacred Heart, Coshocton
(1934-35, 1944-51); St. Francis of Assisi, Columbus (1943-44); Holy Trinity,
Somerset (1951-60); and Bishop Watterson High School (1960-61). Sr. Maura
also ministered at Holy Name, Steubenville, OH (1922-23); St. Thomas,
Braddock, PA (1929-31); St. William, East Pittsburgh, PA (1931-32); St.
Aloysius, Wilmerding, PA (1932); St. Francis de Sales, McKees Rocks, PA
(1932-34, 1937-43); St. Lawrence O’Toole, Pittsburgh, PA (1965-67),
and at St. Mary High School, New Haven, CT (1961-65). She also served
as librarian at St. Francis de Sales, McKees Rocks, PA, from 1967 to 1971
and at Wm. V. Fisher Catholic High School, Lancaster, OH, from 1971 to
1979.
Sr. Maura was preceded in death by three sisters (Sr. Caritas, Sr. Teresa
and Sr. Hildegarde Litzinger) and by seven brothers (Fr. Charles, Austin,
Clarence, Louis, Thomas, Pius “Boze” and Domonic “Nick”
Litzinger). She is survived by a sister, Peg Clark of Somerset. After
moving to the Motherhouse in 1979, Sr. Maura served as assistant librarian
at the Dominican Educational Center, retiring to Mohun Health Care Center
in 1981.
