On Monday, June 26, 2006, Sr. Mary (Charles Edward) Augustus died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Somerset , OH, on May 19, 1911 to Edward and Elizabeth (Guisinger) Augustus. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1931 and made her Profession of Vows in 1932.
Sr. Mary Augustus earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University). She served in various grade schools during her teaching ministry: St. Lawrence O'Toole (Pittsburg, PA: 1932-37); St. Francis de Sales (McKees Rocks, PA: 1937-41); Holy Name (Steubenville, OH: 1941-42); St. Aloysius (Wilmerding, PA: 1942-47); St. Francis of Assisi (Columbus, OH: 1947-48); St. Mary (Marietta, OH: 1948-51, 1968-70); St. Francis de Sales (Newark, OH: 1951-54); St. Thomas (Braddock, PA: 1954-56); St. James the Less (Columbus, OH: 1956-57); St. Peter (Steubenville, OH: 1957-59); Holy Rosary (Steubenville, OH: 1959-64); St. Brendan (Braddock, PA: 1964-65); Sacred Heart (Coshocton: 1965-68); St. Jane de Chantal (Chicago, IL: 1970-76); and Blessed Sacrament (Newark: 1976-77). She also minstered as a tutor at St. Thomas Aquinas (Zanesville: 1978-85).
Sr. Mary retired from teaching and tutoring to serve as a nursing aide at Mohun Health Care Center (1977-78) and as a volunteer at the St. Francis-St. George Hospital in Cincinnati , OH (1985-86) before coming to the Motherhouse in 1986 and subsequently to Mohun Health Care Center in 1996.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents and siblings John, Harry, Elmer, Edward, and Edith Studer. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
