On Thursday, January 25, 2007, Sr. Bernadette Marie Basbagill died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Jersey, OH, on February 10, 1912, to Frank and Mary (Berendt) Basbagill. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1943 and made her Profession of Vows in 1944.
Sr. Bernadette Marie earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University) and an RN from Mt Carmel School of Nursing, both in Columbus, OH. She served as a nurse in Mohun Health Care Center (1944-45) and at the St. George Hospital, Cincinnati (1946-48, 1949-50). She also taught at St. Francis, McKees Rocks, PA (1945-46, 1952-54); St. Andrew, Flushing, NY (1948-49); St. Bernard, Levittown, NY (1950-52); Our Lady of Peace, Columbus, OH (1954-57); St. Peter, Steubenville, OH (1957-58); Annunciation, New York, NY (1958-61); St. Anthony, Steubenville, OH (1961-64, 1968-69); Sacred Heart, Coshocton (1964-68); and St. Clare of Montefalco, Grosse Pointe, MI (1969-82). She retired to Mohun Health Care Center in 1982.
Sr. Bernadette Marie was preceded in death by three sisters (Dominican Sister Dorita Basbagill, Veronica Basbagill, and Marie Bell) and by four brothers (Frank, Joseph, Leo and Paul). She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Lang, of Columbus and many nieces and nephews.
