October 12, 1911 – July 27, 2007

On Friday, July 27, 2007, Sr. Marjorie Ogden (formerly Sr. Albertus Magnus) died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Wilmington, Ohio, on October 12, 1911, to Albert and Helena (Smith) Ogden. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1932 and made her Profession of Vows in 1933.

Sr. Marjorie earned a BA from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University). Sr. Margorie felt fortunate that her teaching took her many different places. She taught grade school at:

  • St. Mary of the Springs Academy (1932-33)
  • St. Brendan, Braddock, PA (1933-34)
  • St. Aloysius, Wilmerding, PA (1934)
  • St. William East Pittsburgh, PA (1934-35)

She taught mathematics at the following high schools:

  • St. Francis de Sales, McKees Rocks, PA (1935-37, 40-41, 45-46)
  • St. Thomas, Braddock, PA (1937-38, 41-44, 48-50)
  • Sacred Heart, Coshocton, OH (1938-40)
  • St. Francis de Sales, Newark, OH (1944-45, 52-55)
  • Catholic Central, Steubenville, OH (1946-48, 76-80)
  • St. Mary, New Haven, CT (1951-52, 55-58, 65-67)
  • St. Mary of the Springs Academy, Columbus, OH (1958-59, 67)
  • St. Mary, Lancaster, OH (1959-61)
  • St. Vincent Ferrer, New York, NY (1961-63)
  • Sr. Lawrence O’Toole, Pittsburgh, PA (1963-65)
  • Bishop Watterson, Columbus, OH (1967-71, 1972-75)
  • Northwest Catholic, West Hartford, CT (1971-72)

Sr. Marjorie also served as treasurer at Dominican Academy, New York, NY (1980-83). After retiring, she volunteered in service to the community at the Motherhouse before moving to Mohun Health Care Center in 1991.

Sr. Marjorie was preceded in death by brothers Elmer, Albert, Vernon, John, and James and sisters Helen, Mary, Dorothy and Kathryn Swick. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
