On Friday, February 29, 2008, Sr. Cecilia Andreas died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in North Braddock, PA, on April 8, 1915, to Stephen and Mary (Yurasko) Andreas. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1933 and made her Profession of Vows on August 14,1935. Sister served as principal at Annunciation Grade School in New York, NY (1960-66) and at St. Lawrence Grade School in Pittsburgh, PA (1974-79).
Sr. Cecilia earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University) and an MS from Fairfield University. She taught at St. Francis, McKees Rocks, PA (1935-39, 1979-80); St. Lawrence, Pittsburgh, PA (1939-40); Annunciation, New York, NY (1940-43); St. Thomas, Braddock, PA (1943-48); St. Brendan, Braddock, PA (1948-50); Dominican Academy, New York, NY (1950-51); Catholic Central High School, Steubenville, OH (1951-60, 1966-67); Northwest Catholic, West Hartford, CT (1967-69, 1970-71); Watterson High School, Columbus, OH (1969-70); Mary Immaculate, Ossining, NY (1971-74); St. Mary High School, New Haven, CT (1980-82); and Christ the King, Columbus, OH (1982-98). She retired and did some tutoring at Christ the King before coming to Mohun Health Care Center in 1998.
Sister was preceded in death by brothers Julius, Joseph, Thomas, Stephen G. and John J. and by sisters Ann McDonough and Dorothy Ryan. She is survived by a sister Edith M. Hornyak and many nieces and nephews.
