Edwana Stir, OP
December 2, 1923 – January 15, 2008

On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, Sr. Edwana Stir died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Beaver, OH, on December 2, 1923, to Edmond and Omah (Wilcox) Stir. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1941 and made her Profession of Vows on August 14, 1943. Sister served as principal at St. Peter School, Steubenville, OH from 1977 until 1982.
Sr. Edwana received her B.S. from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University) and an M.S. in Educational Psychology from Fordham University in New York City. She ministered at St Mary, Lancaster (1943-48, 1984-93); Mary Immaculate School, Ossining, NY (1948-50,1954-61); St. Francis de Sales, Newark, OH (1950-54); Annunciation School, New York, NY (1961-68); St. Lawrence O’Toole, Pittsburg, PA (1968-69); St. Cyprian, Washington, DC (1969-72); Public Schools, Washington, DC (1972-73); Holy Name, Columbus, OH (1973-77); and St. Brendan, Braddock, PA (1982-84).
Sister was preceded in death by a brother George. She is survived by sisters Ada Dress of California and Mary Cahill of Florida and many nieces and nephews. A cousin Norman Adams will be with us for the funeral. Sr. Edwana retired and did community service at the Motherhouse before coming to Mohun Health Care Center in 1993.
