On Tuesday, April 7, 2009, Sr. Thomasita Tyson died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Zanesville, OH, on September 12, 1915, to Thomas and Edith (Dailey) Tyson. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1937 and made her Profession of Vows in 1939.
Sr. Thomasita served Sisters, priests, and students in food service ministry for many years. She was missioned to St. Mary of the Springs, Columbus, OH (1939-40, 1943-44, 1947-82); St. Joseph Priory, Somerset, OH (1940-43); Mary Immaculate GS, Ossining, NY (1944-45); Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, CT (1945-47); and St. Thomas Convent, Zanesville, OH (1982-85). Sr. Thomasita did community service at Sacred Heart, Coshocton, OH (1985-2001) before retiring to Mohun Health Care Center.
Sr. Thomasita was preceded in death by brothers Howard and Chester, and by sisters Virginia Tyson and Betty Adams. She is survived by a niece and two nephews.
The funeral liturgy will be on Monday, April 13, 2009, at 10am, followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
