Sr.
Catherine Siena Bosch, OP
Diamond Jubilarian
60 years (August 14, 1944)
The reward of a life well lived is contentment. Sr. Catherine Siena Bosch,
OP, is celebrating 60 years as a Dominican and unabashedly proclaims,
“It is a wonderful life. For 60 years I have been happy, fulfilled
and supported as I serve the Lord by helping others as teacher, administrator,
and as a community member.”
Sr. Catherine, a native of Steubenville, Ohio, started her teaching
career in 1944 at St. Francis de Sales in Pittsburgh and went on to serve
in numerous other schools as a teacher and then a principal. Returning
to Steubenville as principal to Holy Rosary from 1962 to 1964 and at Holy
Name Cathedral from 1969 to 1971, she then remained in her hometown as
Diocesan Supervisor through 1977. Her last days in a school setting were
in Ossining, New York, from 1983 to 1986.
In 1986, Sr. Catherine began a new ministry – to the elderly –
at Nazareth Towers. This HUD facility, which the Dominicans have managed
since 1969, is located in downtown Columbus and houses low-income seniors.
Sr. Catherine Siena was able to apply her considerable administrative
skills, honed after a lifetime administrating schools, to run an efficient,
clean, well cared for building and to create a welcoming community for
the residents. Her residents never went to the hospital unaccompanied;
their needs were attended and they always had someone who would listen.
Still active in her Motherhouse community, Sr. Catherine Siena was asked
what has sustained her these many years. She responded unequivocally:
“my prayer life.” She has done what the Old Testament prophet,
Micah, suggests: done what is right, loved goodness, and walked humbly
with her God. (Micah 6:8)
