Sr. Elizabeth Chickory, OP
(Sr. Mary Ferrer)

Golden Jubilarian
50 years (July 9, 1955)

Sister Elizabeth (Mary Ferrer) Chickory is celebrating her Golden Jubilee as a Dominican Sister of St. Mary of the Springs, Columbus, Ohio. Born in Jackson Heights, New York, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Campbell) Chickory, Elizabeth attended St Joseph’s Elementary School and St. Vincent Ferrer High School before entering the Novitiate of St. Mary of the Springs in 1953. After making Final Profession in 1958, she earned a B.S. in Education at the College of St. Mary of the Springs (now Ohio Dominican University) and an M.S. in Library Science at Duquesne University.

Sister taught in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York; served as librarian at St. Mary High School, New Haven, CT, and at St. Thomas, Braddock, PA; and was Assistant Director of Human Resources on the Congregational staff of St. Mary of the Springs. After earning certification in gerontology, Sr. Elizabeth joined Connecticut Community Care, Inc., in Plainville, CT. Since 1992, she has been staff supervisor at Sr. Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center (formerly St. Regis Health Care Center) in New Haven, CT.
