Sr. Clarita Elder, OP

Golden Jubilarian
50 years (July 9, 1955)

Sr. Clarita Elder is celebrating her Golden Jubilee this year as a Dominican Sister of St. Mary of the Springs. Born in Somerset, Ohio, to William Lawrence and Ellen Elizabeth (Daugherty) Elder, Rita graduated from Holy Trinity Grade and High Schools. She entered the Novitiate in 1953 and made Final Profession of vows in 1958.

Sr. Clarita attended health and management classes at Xavier University in Cincinnati and studied computer technology at the University of Cincinnati. She earned her LPN and certification as a health aide technician through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), ministered as an aide at St. Mary of the Springs Motherhouse Infirmary, and then served for 32 years as the Supervisor of Admitting/Medical Records for the St. George Hospital (later, St. Francis-St. George, now Mercy Hospital).

Now a patient at Mohun Health Care Center, Sister describes herself as “joyful, joyful, joyful.”
