Sr.
Lillian Kapelewski, OP
Diamond Jubilarian
60 years (August 14, 1945)
Sr. Lillian Kapelewski’s first contact with the Dominican Sisters
of St. Mary of the Springs was during Sunday catechism class in Amsterdam,
Ohio. “Because of their kind and helpful ways, I began to think
about being a Sister,” she explains. Sr. Lillian has spent her 60
years as a Dominican returning such kindnesses to all she encounters.
For the past ten years, Sr. Lillian has served as an aide and now as
a sacristan at Mohun Health Care Center, where ill and elderly Sisters
and priests reside. She is well known at Mohun for her helpfulness and
warm care for patients, particularly for the small number of Diocesan
priests who reside there.
Prior to her work at Mohun, Sr. Lillian ministered in Flushing, New York;
New Haven, Connecticut; and Somerset and Columbus, Ohio, principally in
the area of food service. In reflecting on Sr. Lillian, several of her
Dominican Sisters observed how her stunning organizational skills were
frequently demonstrated in this capacity, as she coordinated regular meals
for sometimes hundreds of individuals.
In the many ways that Sr. Lillian has served God’s people as a
Dominican Sister, she has always been noted for her generosity of spirit
and her quiet but powerful smile.
