Sr.
Patricia McCabe, OP
Golden Jubilarian
50 years (July 9, 1955)
A native of Princeton, New Jersey, and the daughter of a Princeton University
professor, Sr. Patricia McCabe has always had a great appreciation for
education, instilled in her since childhood. In an unusual move at the
time, Sr. Pat earned a Bachelors degree before joining the community of
Sisters who taught her at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT.
While biology has always been Sr. Pat’s specialty, she has taught
various sciences and mathematics courses as needed to all levels –
from first grade through college – in her 50 years as a Dominican
Sister. In the Columbus diocese, she taught at Christ the King, St. James
the Less, Ohio Dominican University, and Ohio State University, and served
on the parish staff at St. Mary (Waverly). At various times she has also
served as an RCIA director, as a computer project supervisor, and on religious
formation teams, befitting of the Dominican notion of adapting ministry
to meet the changing needs of the times.
Sr. Pat’s passion for protecting the environment and knowledge
of biology and ecology, together with her computer skills, have served
the community well in her work at Shepherd’s Corner, the ecology
ministry of the Dominican Sisters where Sr. Pat has volunteered since
2001. Here, in addition to doing “whatever needs to be done”
like so many other Shepherd’s Corner volunteers, Sr. Pat has assisted
the ministry with publications, research, photography, and web design.
“I love to be able to spark an appreciation for nature in others,”
reflects Sr. Patricia. “To me, creation reflects the face of God,
and to share my awe with others is a form of evangelization.” |
