(Sr. Mary Linus)
Golden Jubilarian
50 years (July 9, 1955)
“I became Dominican,” proclaims Sr. Louise (Mary Linus) Wilxman,
“when I moved to Nazareth Towers and began teaching at the Learning
Center. In these situations, I feel that I am truly a Dominican preacher.
I have never stopped valuing my vocation or my Dominican transformation.”
Sr. Louise is celebrating her Golden Jubilee this year as a Dominican
Sister of St. Mary of the Springs, Columbus, Ohio. Born to William and
Marcella (Vivier) Wilxman in Columbus, Louise graduated from Immaculate
Conception Elementary School and St. Joseph’s Academy. She earned
a B.A. degree from the College of St. Mary of the Springs (now Ohio Dominican
University) and an M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, all
in the field of English. She also studied speech and theater at Ohio State.
Sister entered the Novitiate in 1953 and made her first profession of
vows in 1955 and her final profession in 1958. She taught on the elementary
level at Christ the King (Columbus), Holy Trinity (Somerset) and St. Mary
(Lancaster) and, on the secondary level at Bishop Watterson, Columbus.
She served for a year on the English faculty at Albertus Magnus College
in New Haven and for more than 30 years at the College of St. Mary of
the Springs (and when it had been renamed Ohio Dominican College).
After leaving the College, Sister Louise ministered as Assistant Director
and then Associate Director of the Dominican Learning Center in Columbus.
She is currently on the tutoring staff at the Center. |
