Sr. Christine Cosgrove, OP

Silver Jubilarian
25 years (August 9, 1981)

Although Sr. Christine Cosgrove, OP, was drawn to the joy, love, commitment, and ideals she saw in the Dominican Sisters who taught her at Albertus Magnus College (New Haven, CT), after graduation she worked for three years in marketing and sales before entering St. Mary of the Springs. Celebrating 25 years as a Dominican Sister, she asserts that all of her experiences over the years, including those from the business world, have helped her in her faith and in her ministries.

Aside from a few years teaching English in Ohio, Sr. Christine has served most of her religious life in New York City. In 1983, she joined the faculty of Dominican Academy there, and later became Assistant to the Principal and then Vice Principal, using her gifts to establish an office of institutional advancement among other accomplishments in her 21 years there. While at Dominican Academy, Sr. Christine earned an MA in English and later a PHD in Educational Administration, both from Fordham University. She is currently finishing another Masters degree, in Scripture.

During a sabbatical period last year, Sr. Christine was grateful for the opportunity to travel to new countries and to see and experience the Church in less developed areas of the world. "The faith of the people we encountered was extraordinary," she says, adding, "it really showed me the amazing vitality of the Church." Sr. Christine shares that her experiences overseas broadened her perspective of both the Dominican Order and the greater Church, affirmed and renewed her faith, and strengthened her commitment to global education.

Sr. Christine brings the experience of her sabbatical year and of 25 years of vowed Dominican Life to her new ministry as Assistant Principal/Director of Advancement for St. Vincent Ferrer High School, which she began in the fall of 2006. "Religious Life is a gift to the Church," she shares. "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Church as a Dominican Sister."
