Sr. Elizabeth Anne Heery, OP

Golden Jubilarian
50 years (July 9, 1956)

A native New Yorker, Sr. Elizabeth Anne Heery, OP, met the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs at St. Vincent Ferrer High School (New York City), from which she graduated in 1953. The following year, she moved to Columbus to enter the Novitiate at St. Mary of the Springs and today has spent the majority of her life in Ohio. As the Dominican Order celebrates its 800-year anniversary, Sr. Elizabeth Anne celebrates 50 years as a Dominican Sister.

When she entered the Congregation, most of her Dominican Sisters served in education, as teachers or administrators of schools. But from the beginning, Sr. Elizabeth Anne began working in the field of healthcare, serving at what was then the infirmary for St. Mary of the Springs, Mohun Hall. In 1969, she earned her LPN from the State of Ohio and continued to serve at Mohun, in a nursing capacity. All told, she served at Mohun for 36 years, dedicated her days to ensuring the comfort and well-being of the elderly and infirm residents there.

Since 1983, Sr. Elizabeth Anne has continued to minister to her fellow Dominican Sisters, but in a new capacity: as a community services volunteer, where she works as a driver ferrying elder Sisters to medical appointments and other outings.
