Sr. Jeanette Ohler, OP

Diamond Jubilarian
75 years (July 10, 1931)

Sr. Jeanette Ohler says that early in life, she found herself mentally dodging the notion of becoming a Sister ever since a classmate suggested the idea. "At age 18, I stopped running," she proclaims, noting that five days after her 18th birthday she entered the Novitiate at St. Mary of the Springs. Today, celebrating 75 years since her first profession of vows, Sr. Jeanette shares that she has never regretted the decision.

Sr. Jeanette expresses profound gratitude for her vocation, for her community, and the many places of ministry in which she served over the years. She taught children from the first grade through highschool, and every grade in between, in subjects as varied as History, Algebra, Spanish, and more. Sr. Jeanette served mostly in Ohio, teaching in Columbus, Marietta, Lancaster, Newark, and Stuebenville, but she also taught in Pennsylvania and New York.

In 1976, she left the classroom but not the school, ministering as assistant librarian at Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus through 1992. That year, Sr. Jeanette's ministry path again made a turn as she worked as Assistant Activities Director for Mohun Health Care Center, a position she held until her retirement in 2000. She continued to volunteer at the Motherhouse for several years after retiring and today resides at Mohun, where she embraces a ministry of prayer.

In reflecting on 75 years as a Dominican Sister, Sr. Jeanette expresses confidence that God led her to St. Mary of the Springs and has continued to be steadfast throughout the years. She sums up her feelings very succinctly: "I have had a blessed life."
