Sr.
Mary Ronald Sunic, OP
Diamond Jubilarian
60 years (August 14, 1946)
A native of Pittsburgh from St. Rosalia parish, Sr. Mary Ronald Sunic celebrates 60 years as a Dominican Sister of St. Mary of the Springs this year.
With a Bachelors degree in Education, initially Sr. Mary Ronald was a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher. Her teaching assignments brought her to schools in Ohio, New York, New Mexico, and periodically brought her back to her hometown area in Pennsylvania. But in 1969, Sr. Mary Ronald finished a Masters degree in Education and Library Science, and began a new journey of ministry as a librarian.
The 1990s saw another educational endeavor – and corresponding change in ministry – for Sr. Mary Ronald. After completing medical training coursework, she became a licensed nurse's aide in 1992. Sr. Mary Ronald served as a nursing assistant at St. Andrew Avellino parish (Flushing, NY) for two years then returned to Columbus to serve her Sisters in the Congregation's infirmary. She cared for residents at Mohun Health Care Center as a Certified Nurse Assistant until her retirement in 2002.
Changes in ministry have offered Sr. Mary Ronald a variety of experiences, and she is grateful for all. Her Dominican life has taught her the value of being adaptable to meet changing needs. Sr. Mary Ronald trusts in God's leading hand in all she has done in the past 60 years, and in all that lies ahead. |
