Sr.
Marialein Anzenberger, OP
Diamond Jubilarian
60 years (July 9, 1947)
Celebrating 60 years as a Dominican Sister this year, Sr. Marialein Anzenberger proclaims that she has loved and appreciated gifts from every ministry she has had.
As many of her Dominican Sisters, Sr. Marialein began her ministry years in education, serving first in grade schools and then in high schools in New York, Ohio, and Illinois. A Bachelor's Degree in education and Master's Degree in business education served her well during these early years. But, earning a Master's Degree in pastoral counseling in 1971 opened new ministerial doors for Sr. Marialein as she went on to assume roles in counseling, campus ministry, pastoral ministry, and social services at different locations in Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. In 1982, Sr. Marialein returned to Columbus to serve as a counselor for the St. Therese Shrine Center, where she ministered for 11 years, and part-time for the Columbus Marriage Tribunal, where she continues to minister today after 25 years of service.
In addition to her work at the Tribunal, Sr. Marialein has been volunteering at a nearby nursing home for the past three years. She finds great joy in visiting with the residents there, hearing their stories and struggles, talking with them about life and family and faith, and praying with them. She counts her time at the home and the relationships she has developed as among the great blessings God has bestowed on her over the years. "I have had so many opportunities to enrich my spiritual life through my ministries, study, retreats, and, of course, meditation and contemplation," Sr. Marialein shares. As she continues to minister to others after 60 years of religious life, she looks forward to the gifts that lie ahead as well. |
