Sr. Eleanor Romano, OPSr. Eleanor Romano, OP
(Sr. Mary Denis)

Diamond Jubilarian
60 years (July 9, 1947)

Sr. Eleanor Romano (formerly Sr. Mary Denis) spent almost 40 years of her religious life teaching the first and second grades in schools throughout the United States, from Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New York to Michigan and Ohio. In reflecting on her 60th Jubilee this year, she exclaims, "what a privilege it was to teach God's precious little ones for so many years!"

She also shares that she has felt blessed in numerous other ways over the years, in her other ministries and in her religious life in general. For many years since her retirement from education, she has served her Dominican Sisters in different capacities at St. Mary of the Springs – as a receptionist, gift shop manager, mailroom worker, finance office assistant, and overall "pinch-hitter" in supporting the community wherever she has been needed. Today she continues in this capacity of volunteer for St. Mary of the Springs.

Early in her life as a Sister, she was greatly influenced by one of her elders, Sr. Cresecentia Lyden. "She helped me realize how important it is to develop a life of prayer," explains Sr. Eleanor. "My prayer life was enhanced by her word and example." The foundation of a strong prayer life, coupled with a strong community life nourished by daily Eucharist and communal prayer, has helped sustain her in her enthusiasm for and commitment to religious life. "I love being a Dominican Sister of St. Mary of the Springs," she concludes. "I have been very blessed and very happy!"
