Shepherd's Corner

Shepherd’s Corner Ministry was founded in 1992 on Dominican Acres, land owned by the Dominican Sisters. A small community of sisters took up residence and began to explore ways to use the land as a way to “preach” Catholic social teachings on the care of creation.

Combining ecologically sound principals of living, organic methods of gardening, and spiritually enhanced educational and contemplative experiences, the sisters worked to both teach and learn. They have consistently sought ways to involve volunteers and students in appreciating the diverse eco-systems on the 163 acres, and in recognizing the hand of the Creator in all.

Prayer and Study, hallmarks of Dominican Life, find their way into all that happens at Shepherd’s Corner. With additional staff, it has grown into many things:

An oasis of natural habitat…

It is an oasis of some very diverse natural habitats in the midst of interstate highways, small towns, growing suburban housing developments, and shopping malls. It a haven for wildlife and native flora, and a place of peace, natural beauty and spiritual refreshment for harried humans.

An educational opportunity…

It is an educational opportunity -- a laboratory -- for "students" of all ages to study the intricacy of the interwoven relationships among all creatures, and to learn how we humans can strengthen and enhance those relationships rather than heedlessly upsetting them.

A diverse volunteer opportunity…

It is a community of Dominican Sisters joining in ministry with others who share their vision of a life style that honors the graced reality of all creation, that acknowledges our oneness with creation, and that holds us accountable for the use of our resources.

A community garden…

The Community Garden is three phased project, targeted to the immigrant poor, the goal of which is to provide fresh organically grown produce to the participants and the local food bank, as well to teach an understanding of sustainable agriculture.

If your heart and mind resonate with our vision and commitment, we hope that you will stay connected with us, "virtually" or actually. To volunteeer or for more information, contact us at:
