Dominican
Academy
The Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs founded Dominican
Academy in New York City in 1897. For over one hundred years, the
sisters have shared their preaching charism in this outstanding school
for young women. Dominican Academy graduates have gone on to many varied
careers. Some chose the vocation of teachers, as professed sisters in
the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs.
In 1996 and again in 2002, Dominican Academy was honored with the prestigious
Blue Ribbon Academy Award by the U.S. Department of Education.
The mission of Dominican Academy is to educate young women through spiritual,
intellectual, aesthetic, moral and social development. As a Catholic college
preparatory school in the Dominican tradition, the Academy is committed
to fostering the teachings of the Catholic faith. It attempts to bring
all students to their full potential. In an environment of respect, and
with the support of the family, Dominican Academy prepares its students
to become responsible, self-respecting citizens and truth seekers, to
be aware of their own needs and gifts and responsive to others.
