Issue: Iraq

Throughout its history, the Congregation has prayed and worked for nonviolent solutions to conflicts. With the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Sisters continue to pray for an end to the violence that has brought suffering to the local residents, and to the soldiers, civilians, and their families.

The situation of Iraqi refugees and displaced persons is of grave concern. A joint statement on this issue was submitted to the UN General Assembly's Human Rights Council by the Dominicans for Justice and Peace, Dominican Leadership Conference, Pax Christi International, International Catholic Peace Movement, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and the Congregations of St. Joseph.
