Dominican Associates
of Akron & Columbus |
|
 |
Dominican Associates are
Christian women and men; married, single, divorced, and widowed;
clergy members and lay persons who were first drawn to
and then called to live out the charism and continue the
mission of the Dominican Order - to praise, to bless, to preach.
Associates do not take vows, but rather make a commitment to be
partners with vowed members, and to share the mission and charism
of the Dominican Family in our own lives, families, churches, neighborhoods,
workplaces, and cities. |

What
do Associates do? |
|
Associates
participate in the life of the Congregation through our involvement
in prayer, study and ministry. We strive to extend the Dominican
presence into the many worlds in which we live. We are engaged in
all walks of life and whether we are attorneys, homemakers, teachers,
business-owners or factory workers, we try to live our daily lives
intentionally as Dominicans. We preach the Good News through the
voices of our work, our art, and our lives, following the example
of Catherine of Siena, who reminds us:
"Preach the Truth as if you had
a million voices. It is silence that kills the world." |

the St. Pius X Group meets in Columbus |
Persons who feel drawn to the Dominican
way of life enter into a year-long discernment process. Through
prayer, study and group discussion, in companionship with vowed
members and experienced Associates, candidates come to understand
more fully what it means to be Dominican. If the Dominican Family
feels like home, they discern with the community if God is calling
them to an Associate vocation. The Discernment process began in four locations. Click here
for details!
Those called to the vocation of a Dominican Associate make an initial
commitment in a formal ceremony near the Feast of St. Dominic, August
8. As part of this ceremony, each new associate publicly declares
how he or she will live out the charism and mission of the Dominican
Order.
