Associates Preaching
from the Pulpit

Preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ is central to the life of every Christian and is foundational to the Order of Preachers. Dominican Associates give voice to their faith in many ways, including pulpit preaching on a number of occasions. You'll find here the text of preaching given by our Associates in various contexts. Enjoy!

"Can you hear me now?"
For many years at Our Lady of the Elms, sisters have been taking turns preaching short homilies at daily mass. For the first time an associate, Conni Dubick, was invited to preach on May 7, 2007. Find her homily here.

On October 7, 2006 The Gathering 2006 was held at Our Lady of the Elms. This bi-annual event is sponsored by the Akron Associates Advisory Board and brought together 60 Associates and Sisters from both the Columbus and Akron Dominicans. This year the theme was "Encountering the Word in Words and the Eucharist" and featured Bishop Martin Amos, Auxiliary Bishop of Cleveland, and Dominican Sisters Maria Beesing and Ann Walters. The day concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist in Our Lady of the Elms Chapel. Akron Associate Conni Dubick served as preacher and challenged us all to "walk like giants" in our Dominican vocation. Read her preaching here.

On the Vigil of the Feast of St. Dominic 2006, the Sisters and Associates of Our Lady of the Elms in Akron gathered for the Associates' Commitment and Renewal Ceremony. Four new Associates made initial commitment, three made lifetime commitment and several renewed their commitment. Akron Associate Dennis Paonessa was invited to preach for this occasion and used Salt and Light as his theme. Click here to read the text of his preaching.

The 2006 Associates' Commitment and Renewal Ceremony in Columbus took place on August 6, the Feast of the Transfiguration. Twelve new associates made initial commitment and the renewal of more than eighty associates was also celebrated. The preacher, Columbus Associate Tina Butler, challenged the congregation to claim the "reliable prophecy" that is ours as the beloved of God. Read the text of her preaching here.
